My Journey, Up Until This Blog

For a long time I have expressed opinions on Twitter. My attitude towards the social network has evolved since I created my first account in 2006, when the way to tweet was by sending SMS and I discovered that it did not work in Guatemala. This made me abandon the platform until the mobile app became popular, which was when Twitter 'exploded' in Guatemala. I remained absent for the entire initial growth phase though, and through the #FollowFriday fad that gave rise to the thousands-of-followers tweetstars made by popular culture in Guatemala, when that was what Twitter was about. It didn't seem relevant to me then either.

I returned to the platform after the teen exodus, when Twitter became popular in the political arena, alas, without realizing that the Political Left had already hijacked the platform for its propaganda. At first, I was combative, but over time I discovered the embedding of left-wing ideology on the platform itself, and understood that it was a global phenomenon, in light of the notorious leftist proclivity of the social network—and Silicon Valley at large— partaking in the amplification of ideological propaganda and suppressing dissidence. And locally, in Guatemala, in light of that same amplification of left-wing NGOs and former armed leftist movements/actors.

The Left Won The Culture War

I understood that it was useless to debate, and since then, my tone became humorous and sarcastic, but forceful, candid, heavy on reverse psychology while trying to be logically valid, and my argumentation supported in philosophy, economy, science and political thought; I always strived to be ethical, intellectually honest, and above all, careful not to be silenced or banned by the «Orwellian» censorship initiated by the globalists during the "Purge of 2018" in social networks. By then, a crude censorship of Silicon Valley was unleashed on all political voices "to the right of social democracy”, on social networks. I was not blocked or thrown from Twitter like others, but most of the big names in Guatemalan journalism blocked me from their accounts, not so much because they were annoyed by my tweets but by my responses to theirs. I understood that Twitter is a leftist echo chamber—like any modern medium—and that it would never be an appropriate channel forfree expresion.

Popcorn And Soda 🍿🥤

What did we inherit from Hollywood and American popular culture in Central America, you'd think? It's what we eat when we see fiction in the cinema as comfort food. So the popcorn and soda emoticons started appearing, a long time ago, at the end of almost all my tweets as sort of a personal brand; subtle, and little self-evident for those who do not know me, because my tweets are usually ironic, as those of someone who comments a bad movie in the theater. I didn't even invent this myself, but rather I took it from anonymous memes and other teen-borne accounts during the Tweetstar phase that were tweeting about, to me, trivial matters that were far removed from my own interests. With 🍿🥤 I have exposed the fallacies, the elastic morality, the contradictions and the lies that characterize statist propaganda, mostly on the left.

So What Are My Politics And Interests?

My interests: politics and political action. I studied almost 3 years of Political Science at UFM/EPRI in 2002 on my second stint in college as a hobby, at age 32. One semester, work (I was employed at the time) prevented my attending my semester finals and I could not continue the following year, when the university canceled the afternoon “jornada”. But that did not stop my newfound passion for politics, philosophy and Austrian Economics, nor from continuing to read and consume long-format internet media on these subjects as much as I could.

Although I use the concepts of left-right, please understand I do it to conform, since I do not adhere to what I consider to be a false dichotomy, in that the spectrum of political thought can be limited to the traditional notion of lefts and rights. A healthier, and more honest perception of the political spectrum to me is to conceive of it from its true extremes: Total State and Anarchy. I consider then, that both extremes are functionally the same amid the cancer that is Western Statism today, that is, the West's tendency towards the Total State. On one apparent hand, the mercantilist right wingers—usually represented in religious and conservative fundamentalists—and on the other ‘apparent’ hand of course, The Left; just as mercantilistic, by the way. Now, the political Left have their own scale of intellectual toxicity of their own worth signing out, according to their level of devotion held towards the secular, statist religion that it is: from Social Democrats, advancing to 'Pink' Progressives, and The Radicals: hard-core Progressives and Communists.

Extremes are rampant in modern western society, but the left is becoming more radical by the hour!, it seems. The political Right are equally statist (and consequently hyper-spending, hyper-expanding and corrupt). Only in rhetoric, do they appear to bid for economic Liberalism, but it is ultimately all hard-core mercantilism in the end, crony capitalism, a special interests-fest, and underhanded socialism to appeal to the democratic vote through cheap populism, and thus retain power whenever they have their turn in it.

That said, it is not surprising that most of my counter-narrative is directed towards the so-called left, although occasionally also towards the radical, mercantilistic, nationalist, supremacist, statist, or otherwise odious "Right" in some other way. Nonetheless, I consider right-wing radicals comparatively innocuous in context; although they occupy 99% of the mainstream narrative in the Opression Olympics professed by the media and the academia, while being only perhaps 5% of the real problem in the West. No, the real problem is the left-wing Woke Culture.

So What I Am I? How Do I Define My Politics?
An Anarcho-Capitalist (in principle)—on a utopian level; a Minarchist Libertarian (out of conviction)— for being an economic and a social liberal; and, ultimately, a Classical Liberal—secular, non-conservative (out of realistic pragmatism). A Liberal of the kind that I consider to be the true Liberals, tohose of a reactionary nature to the clergy, as during the Enlightenment.
I Think I Will Die A Classic Liberal

Being pragmatic, I consider that: 1) not even the most civilized nations of the West are ready for a Libertarian State due to the rooted statist ethos instilled in Western society during centuries of conditioning, and 2) that possibly human civilization would need to achieve a Star Treck "Vulcan" degree of rationalism—as in the television series—to even begin to consider the existence of a sustainable anarcho-capitalist socioeconomic system.

I recognize then, the absolute necessity for the existence of a Limited Republican State. Alas, a not only strong, but a formidable State in its agility, effectiveness and certainty to exercise: 1) the external defense of a country, and 2) the monopoly of coercive action towards its citizens, framed into a Constitutional republic grounded in Natural Law (not Positivism). A warrantor State, constitutionally and immutably limited in function and scope; and with the minimum government institutions necessary for the defense of 3 human, natural rights: Life, Liberty and Private Property; from which I believe, ALL the other rights of individuals are derived.

This Site Will Be Both Pollitical And Entertainment

The 🍿🥤 are, therefore, the ironic touch of one who watches a fictional drama. I speak of that absurd postmodern worldview held by most generational members of today's world EAP. Generations indoctrinated in a worldview fabricated by a world wide outbreak of statism and corrupted education, popular culture and a collusive mainstream propaganda. A world with a globalist and absolutist influence towards the sad generations that make up the prevailing EAP: Millennials and a part of GenX'ers. I speak of Postmodernism: a fallacious ethos, unscientific, logically and ethically relativistic, anti-economical and counter-humanly natured. A philosophy forged by coarse indoctrination and ideological upbringing amid a dissolving family. This is the ideology that the sad generation of Millennials inherited, an evolution of Classic Marxism and that gave way to Neomarxism as a consequence of the postmodern western hijacking, over the last 70 years, of:

  • Elementary, middle and high school education,
  • higher education of a global scope, both public and quasi-private (statist-corporatist with the State),
  • the entertainment industry: music, Hollywood and their infamous clay gods,
  • art. Especially the nauseating postmodern sculpture, painting and some architecture,
  • Sports,
  • Messianic and populist statesmen, rulers and political parties plaguing all the democracies of the West,
  • the mainstream media and the press,… and finally, and that which will be the most transformational, civilization-impacting aspect of all in the future:
  • the AI driven algorithms for the curation, amplification and suppression of information, already used on the Internet today.

This page will be about political issues and popular culture—while it lasts—and will try to position itself as a forceful counterculture site, debating and challenging that Matrix of intellectual poison that floods humanity: Woke Culture.

I summon:
A cathartic group of young Chapines, acid and eloquent liberals and libertarians, but above all, knowlegeable and educated. Young people fed up with the wokes, and eager to express themselves outside of social media without censorship or ostracism. Of any generation—although I anticipate only appealing to the GenZ, as some share the same attitude: that of "popconrn and soda" towards this distopic postmodernist un-reality that has been created for us. People willing to investigate and document their journalistic jabs at the Matrix from their own unique personal angle towards "woke" culture, but from decisevely unapologetical liberal perspective; to and from our beautiful country, and beyond.
My Motivation

Being a GenX'er, I would like to contribute in leading a change in culture amid Generation Z and Centennials, in whom I see flashes of Lucid Epiphany, very often. Culture change is my understanding of the path to political change. I want to fill a gap that my liberal and libertarian colleagues have failed to fill. I think that they have failed to understand something that the left understood more than 80 years ago when the Soviet Subversion of the West began: that the path to political change is through culture, entertainment, art and humor. I want to see liberals come out of the intellectual bubble of their Think Tanks and liberal podcasts and talk shows, where confrontation is avoided and where slang is not spoken; where subject matter is not shown but taught, preached and lectured, alienating its subjects from the pulpit and hoping to reach a generation that is literophobic by design.

Editorial Line

Counterculture's editorial line will always pursue principles of ethics, respect, academic rigor, intellectual honesty, civilized debate, humor, candor and relevance in the context of current affairs. We shall strive to conduct and frame its content within a colloquial, jovial and acid yet respectful delivery; humorous where and when merited. We will prepare content in the context of culture and the situational idiosyncrasy of Chapines. Of course, without prejudice to any other style, tone or culture that our guest and permanent contributors choose to bring, but always reserving for ourselves, from the editors board, the right to deliver a decisive and irreverent liberal opposition—surely, politically incorrect, for many. Any leftist or or otherwise statist who dares contribute, debate and discuss civilly, and without insulting or mischaracterizing the editors or their audience will be more than welcome for sure! Echo chambers are boring, even if we are doomed to become one.

Counterculture Is:

A blog with multi-media content on satire, parody, criticism, political opposition and entertainment. It would be written by bloggers and amateur content creators, not journalists. We are not going to pretend to be a "media outlet" or "journalists" ourselves. We will welcome criticism, and we will publish as many errata dully supported "journalistically" as justified for any slip-ups. We will not be like other sites we know, and which shall not be named, that are dedicated mainly to ideological activism in Guatemala, abandoning all precepts and principles of the journalistic profession: that of collecting facts to give way to public opinion, as opposed to "giving" it, in gross propaganda.

Funding

We will make every attempt to finance ourselves organically, through alternative media-style crowdfunding platforms in the style of alternative media, with content sections by membership, and / or with the sale of overvalued merchandise in exchange for intangible premium content, and perhaps even private sponsorships but disclosing amounts and naming the origin ... and here, we accept ideas!

Final NOTE: What do the GIFs at the bottom of our home page allude to? 👇

If you made it reading this far, I'll tell you: The GIFs correspond to a TV show and movie from the late 80's that's called "They Live", a dystopic sci-fi thriller in which a vagabond roaming the US in search of construction gigs, accidentally discovers an alleged "terrorist cell" protecting a lot of sunglasses. Then it turns out that they are not really terrorists, but a resistant militia against the hidden, ugly truth of the world, which as the movie progresses —and the glasses are worn— is revealed: that we are ruled by an alien species broadcasting a subliminal fake reality, since who knows when, of ugly reptilian-like aliens occupying all the spheres of political and economic power.

Hence the parallel to what I desciribe of our culture today, sure enough, in a less fantasious reality and with human actors, still aptly analogizing modern Western attitudes: both from the institutionalized power and from the populace.

Note Of Discharge: English, Spanish And "Inclusive" language 🙄

Our site will be mostly in Spanish. Some content will be translated. Some will be only in English and a good chunk only in Spanish. As for inclusive language, we will not do it in either one. Go away if this offends you.

Every modern browser does a great job of translating pages nowadays anyway. And we'll try to advise on content that is expressly human-translated to be noted so.
